We are currently carrying out the renovation of the chapel block building for the Christian college in Selly oak Birmingham. This is converting a derelict block into meeting rooms, a library, lecture rooms, recreational area etc, as part of the college campus which is actually part of Birmingham university. The project consists of demolishing all old fixtures and fittings, stripping out a kitchen, demolishing an extended flat roof part of the building and converting it by constructing a new extension using a steel frame surrounded by brick and block work cavity walls.
The first floor has been constructed essentially by installing a precast concrete hollow core floor, supported on the steel work. We are now coming toward the stage of constructing the roof, brickwork is nearly complete, next week we will be continuing with the roof using engineered joists, which are timber and ply which are very light weight yet very strong. They will support a plywood deck and then roofers will come and install 100mm thick insulation and a felt roof over the new extension and stripping existing felt off the existing building and applying the same roof covering.
Internally we will be commencing electrical work next week, installing cables to be followed by plastering, the entire project will be complete by July.
